Today was another good example of how a correctly fitted driver can change the ball flight and confidence of a golfer. I had a golfer in for a driver fitting with his shot pattern being a strong left to right ball flight (right handed player) so a fade and then a slice being his bad shot.
You’ll see from the strike pattern in the picture on the right with his current non fitted driver that he favoured the heel which also creates a left to right spin on the ball. Then on top of this he also had his swing path working out-to-in with the face slightly open to the path so again creates a left to right spin axis on the ball.
So we set about putting some different loft and shaft options into his hands to get the launch and backspin of the ball in the right area but still had the tendency to strike the heel.
So I then put a shaft that was 1 inch shorter than standard in the head and boom, the strike pattern instantly improved with the golfer finding the centre which in turn help with the control of the ball flight in regards to the start direction and then the side spin! (pictured left)
And of course with the strike improved the ball speed increases and the control of spin improves and the ball goes straighter and longer………who doesn’t want that with their driver!?
